Timothy Powell is the Naval Hospital Beaufort SC chaplain. Prior to this, he was chaplain at Camp Lejeune, which included assignments as the Marine Combat Training Battalion chaplain, the School of Infantry chaplain,??the Training and Operations chaplain, and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Chaplain. Following this, he attended the Navy's Clinical Pastoral Residency at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth VA before being assigned to the hospital in Beaufort.

Tim was born October 16, 1962 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.??Following graduation from Poplar Bluff High School in 1981, he attended Three Rivers Community College (1982-1984) and transferred to Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO; where he earned a B.S. in Psychology (1986).??He then attended the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary where he earned two graduate degrees, a M.A. in Biblical Literature (1989) and a Master of Divinity (1995).??Selected for the Navy Post-graduate School??s Funded Graduate Education program, he earned a postgraduate Th.M. in Religion and Culture from Asbury Theological Seminary (2004).??

He is an ordained minister since April 14, 1994.??His ministry history includes several years of itinerate preaching (1987-1991); three years (1992-1995) of service at Evangel??University in Springfield, MO where he worked in the Student Development and Bible Departments; and two and a half years (1995-1997) as pastor of a church in Sedan, KS. In Sedan, he functioned as Secretary and Treasurer for the community??s Ministerial Alliance, which managed local Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds.

After being commissioned on August 9, 1995, Tim attended the Basic Course at the Naval Chaplains School in Newport, RI in February and November 1996.??In December 1996, he attached to the VMFA 112 and 124 squadrons, 4 MAW MED MAG 41 at NAS Fort Worth JRB.??He attended Chaplain Expeditionary Skills Training (CREST) at Camp Lejeune, NC in July 1997.??From December 1997 to January 2001, he was assigned to 1st Radio Battalion, MARFORPAC, Kaneohe Bay, HI.??He then served aboard the USS BOXER (LHD 4) home ported at Naval Station San Diego from February 2001 to February 2003.??From February to August 2003, he served at the Naval Consolidated Brig at MCAS Miramar, CA.??Following this brief assignment, Chaplain Powell was selected for and attended Naval Postgraduate School at a contracted civilian school (Asbury Theological Seminary) from September 2003 to June 2004.??From July 2004 until??now, he served with both the United States Marines and the Navy.??
