Cantor Michael F. Trachtenberg is no stranger to the Bimah nor to the concert stage. Operatically trained, he has been singing since the age of 11. After undergraduate and graduate study at Hunter College and Queens College, Cantor Trachtenberg completed his cantorial training at the Herzliah-Jewish Teacher's Seminary in New York, where he studied with the distinguished Cantors David Koussevitsky and Tzvi Aroni. Michael has served congregations in the Bronx, Westchester and Lawrence, New York. Cantor Trachtenberg joined Temple Isaiah in Stony Brook, New York 18 years ago. He has maintained his interest is Jewish Choral Music by performing with the New York Cantor's Ensemble and the Long Island Cantor's Ensemble. He is also an excellent interpreter of Contemporary. Jewish Music as well as the classic music repertoire. To fulfill his love of music theatre, Cantor Trachtenberg has directed and performed in local music theatre productions and played in the orchestra for several revival performances on Long Island. Cantor Trachtenberg is an avid student of Jewish and Jewish-American History. Michael was honored to have recently joined the Pave the Way Foundation's Mission to Rome, meeting and singing for Pope John Paul II and joining with his colleagues in the first Cantorial Concert ever to be performed in the Great Synagogue in Rome.
